In cooperation with partners within the Cooperative Tree register NEO is one of four consortiums commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) and the Netherlands Space Office (NSO) to conduct a feasibility study for identifying, capturing and monitoring small landscape elements. Competition was considerable with a total of 27 proposals submitted. In particular, the strong and complementary consortium (Geodan, Wageningen Environmental Research and NEO), understanding of the issues and looking beyond the current demand were highly appreciated. The aim is to further build on the existing Tree Register, and to start monitoring small landscape elements with innovative techniques.

That there is a great need for mapping small landscape elements may be clear. On a large scale, (parts of) the so typical elements are disappearing from the Dutch landscape. Together with the partners within the Tree Register, we hope to use this SBIR to set up a system that is widely applicable, and thus can contribute to the preservation of the Dutch cultural landscape.
