My name is Paul Veldhuijzen and I work since mid-April at NEO as consultant earth observation and geo-information. Earlier this year, I completed my MSc Earth Surface & Water at Utrecht University. During my studies, my research included using temporal and spatial variability to predict changes in large-scale systems, such as desertification in semi-arid areas. For this research, I analysed large amounts of remote sensing data.
I am happy to be able to put the skills I acquired in my studies into practice at NEO. During my first weeks, I have experienced a very nice atmosphere and feel well received, even if we are currently forced to work from home. The first project I am involved in is monitoring agricultural activity, and I am looking forward to learning a lot of new things in this and other projects!

My name is John Ray Bergado. I joined NEO last April in the position of data engineer geospatial and am currently completing my PhD at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) at the University of Twente. My research focuses on developing techniques based on deep learning for various earth observation applications. One example is urban land cover and land use mapping based on very high-resolution imagery. Another example is predicting the likelihood of forest fires using big geodata. I got my MSc from the same faculty, in the same research area. I am attracted to working at NEO not only because the projects fit very well with the direction I worked in during my PhD, but also because of the very nice working atmosphere I noticed during my job interviews.
