My name is Azeb Gidey Kahsay and in July I started my internship at NEO. I got my Bachelor's degree in Geography and environmental studies from Mekelle University, Ethiopia. In Ethiopia, the GIS industry had just started to develop and I wanted to discover how the traditional handling of geodata could be improved with digital applications. I worked in projects introducing local farmers to GIS products for different purposes. Since August 2020, I have been pursuing a master's degree (Geoinformatics) at the University of Twente.
During my time at NEO, I will contribute to the use of hyperspectral data for determination of bathymetry. Mapping water bodies is costly and difficult and I think using hyperspectral data can reduce the complexity. I enjoy working on new knowledge about how hyperspectral earth observation can contribute to terrain mapping.
