Introducing our interns: Morteza Yaqubkani and Yuhan Zhang

Morteza Yaqubkani

I am Morteza, second-year MSc student of Geoinformatics at the University of Twente and recently joined NEO as an intern. I have a bachelor's degree in Geomatics Engineering, after which I gained several years of work experience in land surveying and GIS in Iran.

One of my main interests is working as an online GIS developer, using various technologies and programming languages to process data as well as making it accessible to end-users through web viewers or other applications.

During my internship at NEO, I will be working on 3D visualisation of trees in a web environment. NEO is naturally involved in creating and maintaining the Tree Base Register, a huge dataset containing information on all trees in the Netherlands such as tree species, height and location. My task is to determine the best way to make a 3D visualisation of this for a web environment. I will do this using various methods to create 3D tiles after which I will develop a viewer in Cesium JS or Mapbox GL.

Yuhan Zhang

Hi, I am Yuhan Zhang. I am a second-year master's student in Geo-Information Science at Wageningen University & Research. Before this, I studied Environmental Sciences. Over the past few years, I have worked on several projects involving vegetation detection and land use classifications from satellite data with machine learning. Furthermore, I am very interested in the field of smart city and the use of satellite data.

NEO has many interesting projects in the field of Smart City and is therefore a good place to start my graduate internship. My internship at NEO is about classifying cars on very high resolution satellite data which will use deep learning. I will be using the U-net model in which different models will be compared.

NEO captures objects from above and monitors changes smartly and accurately. In doing so, we create data and insights that directly contribute to your challenge.

Curious what that will bring you?
