How much space is left on rooftops for solar panels?

Based on elevation models, solar potential analyses can be well performed on a large scale (all of the Netherlands). A data service that is already frequently deployed. However, the risk with conventional solar potential analyses is that they only look at the roof itself, but not at what is already on the roof.

Sometimes we see in aerial and satellite photos that roofs are already so full of cooling towers, dormers, skylights, chimneys and façade maintenance installations that there is hardly any room for solar panels. By taking such situations into account, we map out what is theoretically available and how much space is left in reality.

With Solar Potential on the Map, NEO maps the remaining potential of solar panels on rooftops. Each roof is provided with address information and an indication of the power to be generated.
