Detection of Great Waternail with satellite imagery

Water exotics such as the Large Water Pennywort can make life difficult for water managers. In a short time, these plants can cover a large part of the water surface. NEO supports water managers by frequently monitoring watercourses with optical satellite images. Modern satellite sensors make it possible to monitor wider watercourses weekly for rapid vegetation growth.

On behalf of Water Board Aa and Maas, NEO is monitoring the presence of Big Water Pennywort in the management area for the 2020 growing season. We are very pleased with this challenge that gives us the opportunity to further innovate in automatic vegetation monitoring in the water sector.
