Trainee at NEO: Ryan Bailey

Hello, my name is Ryan Bailey and from January to June 2022 I will be doing an internship at NEO. I am an undergraduate at the University of Coventry (in the UK) where I study geography and natural hazards. One part of my course I am particularly interested in is earth observation and analysis with geographic information. The application of earth observation data in hazardous natural environments is a field of work I want to focus my career on. I am therefore very excited about the opportunity to learn new skills and gain experience in this field at NEO, which I am sure will be very useful in the future.

During my first two weeks at NEO, I was already able to apply techniques I made my own during my studies at university. I also learnt many new things and was introduced to applications of spatial analysis as I did not know them before, such as solar panel detection and tree monitoring for the whole of the Netherlands. I started with manual orthorectification (correcting height differences) for images coming from the satellite Superview which are then overlaid to create a mosaic for the whole of the Netherlands. I had not done this before. I am very much looking forward to learning even more and applying my newly acquired skills in the coming months here at NEO.

NEO captures objects from above and monitors changes smartly and accurately. In doing so, we create data and insights that directly contribute to your challenge.

Curious what that will bring you?
